Throughout the next few weeks we’ll be making small enhancements to the sharing feature of RefWorks, as we work towards a complete update.  The overall aim is to improve sharing, and one of the first changes was recently loaded – an improvement to the Comments feature.

When sharing a folder or an entire RefWorks database, you can now view, manage and post comments to your references from within RefWorks from ANY view (i.e. from All References, a folder or search results list).

The Comments icon still appears when someone posts a comment to your reference, but now there is a new Add Comments icon for any shared references in your account that do not have any comments posted.  Clicking on the Add Comments icon allows you to easily post and manage comments. Below are examples of how these icons appear in RefWorks.

New Add Comments icon:

In addition to this change, you can expect even more sharing improvements in the near future -- soon you will be able to:

  • Add shared folders from other users directly into your account
  • add shared folders from an Organization-wide Shared Area Page to your account
  • Create lists across folders to make collaboration easier

We encourage you to explore the new Add Comments feature, and please check back regularly as we continue to make more improvements. As always, your feedback and your questions are welcome!
